The Senior British Women's Championships took place at Prestatyn Golf Club from 15th-17th September. Six members of the Midland Vets team made the journey to Prestatyn to compete for the title.
On practice day 1 there was a light breeze and sunny conditions but practice day 2 was quite windy and the wind direction the opposite way round, typical links golf.
Day 1 of the competition gave testing conditions for some, but not so for the leader Ann Lewis of Royal St David's who shot 3 under par round of 71, a round which contained 7 birdies. Julie Brown also had a great round and was close behind with a 2 under par round of 72. In 3rd place hot on their heals was Helen Lowe with a level par74. Round 2 saw Julie move into 1st place with a total of 1 under and Helen keep her 3rd place, at 3 over.
The final round saw Julie paired with the the Irish champion Gertie McMullen with just a light breeze and a good crowd who were in for some fantastic golf. Julie's game was so steady and her putting stroke so smooth. Only once did she lose the lead and eventually came back in 4 over to win by a 3 shot margin.
Congratulations to her as she has become the only Midland player to win the British Seniors.
