There were 69 entries for the Championshipsfrom across the region which was pleasing, bearing in mind Covid19 restrictions. Fortunately these were eased three days earlier on 17th May. This allowed everyone to meet in the clubhouse, though social distancing measures were observed. The weather was very disappointing as it started to rain mid-morning, it became very windy and turned cold again. This was reflected in the scores, nevertheless some very good scores were returned.
The Champion and winner of the Dorothy Crooke Salver was Sophie Beardsall (Greetham Valley). The Runner-up was Marcella Tuttle (Links Newmarket). The winner of the Madeleine Fyshe Salver for over 65s was Sue Penfold (Sherwood Forest). Prize winners in Division A: Lesley Fox (Kiddermister); Carol Wild (Notts Ladies); Caron Harrison (Sherwood Forest). Division B: Pam Watson (Stoke Rochford); Gill Andrews (Gog Magog); Christine Ellis (John O’Gaunt).
There was also excitement when Marcella Tuttle had a hole-in-one at the 169 yd 17th hole. She was presented with a Stoke Rochford golf towel as a memento.
Mags McArthur, Stoke Rochford Lady Captain, and Norma Varley, were at the Halfway House. Unfortunately mugs of hot tea or coffee would have been much more appreciated than bottles of water but again Covid restrictions made decisions about this difficult.
Steve Cullington, Stoke Rochford Club Manager, was particularly helpful, putting all players onto the club computer, entering the results and closing the competition quickly so Captain Carol Wild was able to do a prize presentation. Birdie Dawson and Sue Timberlake assisted Liz Holbrook on the Registration Desk and Andrea Stockdale took the photographs. It was good that we were able to run the Midland Vets Championship this year. The next Midland Vets competition is the AmAm at Droitwich GC on Wednesday 30th June, organiser Janice Kerr.
